Nablus soaps are cooked in the worlds oldest soap making tradition. They formulate soap in the old traditiobal manner followed in the 13th century – the same way their forefathers did. The preparation of the soaps involves a lengthy and tedious process. They use three main ingredients – Olive oil (the prime agricultural product of the region), water, and baking soda. Palestine is renowned for its olives and so it has always been the tradition in Nablus city to make soap from olive oil. The ingredients are processed by a method that aims to preserve a healing and nourishing effect. To handcraft pure, long-lasting soap bars, the ingredients are cooked in a huge stainless steel vessel and are then left to soak for a day. The next day they continue with the cooking process. The liquid soap is then spread in wooden frames to set. After setting, they measure and outline the soap bars and cut them into the classic cube shape of Nablus soap. Next they are stamped with the company’s trademark seal. The soap cubes then undergo a drying process that can last from three months to a year. It involves stacking them in ceiling- high structures resembling cones with hollow centers that allow the air to circulate around them. Various other ingredients (that have a thereupatic effect) such as honey, milk, mud from the Dead Sea or dried herbs from the Medina etc. are also added into the base oil i.e. Olive oil to produce a wide range of Nablus soaps
